Ingredients:
3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened at room temp
1/8 tsp salt
1 large egg yolk
1 tbsp sweet milk (optional)
- Cream the butter until it's fluffy. Beat in sugar, salt, and yolk until mixture is creamy.
- Use the milk only if the mixture needs to be thinned out a bit.
- Flavor the mixture. Note from book: Butter cream frostings have a tendency to soften during hot weather. Whip in cornstarch if this happens to bring the mixture back to its consistency.
Vanilla Butter Cream: 1 tsp vanilla extract
Almond Butter Cream: 1 tsp almond extract or 1 tsp amaretto liqueur
Orange Butter Cream: 1 tsp orange liquer
Lemon Butter Cream: 1 tsp lemon extract
Rum Butter Cream: 1 tsp rum
Brandy Butter Cream: 1 tsp brandy or 1 tsp cognac
Cocoa Butter Cream: 1 tsp creme de cocoa
Coffee Butter Cream: 1 tsp strong coffee
Apricot Butter Cream: 1 tsp apricot brandy
